This Is It

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for since that terrible night in November 2016 when we were all blindsided by a Red sweep of the presidency, Senate, and House. That night my stomach dropped and it’s kept right on dropping for four continuous years.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump opened his mouth and his Twitter account and started spewing nonstop toxic lies with impunity.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump filled his cabinet and wider administration with the worst, least experienced, most dangerous and racist sycophants possible, including his own children who definitely did not divest themselves from their business interests.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump and his lackeys tried with all their (not actually all that considerable) might to get rid of the Affordable Care Act and strip health insurance from millions, to overturn everything his predecessor achieved simply because he was a black man.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump labeled the white supremacists in Charlottesville “very fine people” while branding BLM supporters crazed ANTIFA terrorists who will invade your suburbs and wreak havoc, ever since he gassed a group of peaceful protesters to clear out space for the shittiest most transparent photo op possible while telling what should be considered an actual domestic terrorist group to “stand back and stand by”.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since the Trump administration began separating thousands of families at the border: detaining parents in squalid conditions and children in cages, losing track of family members (the parents of 545 children separated at the border still haven’t been found), and in many cases forcing hysterectomies on unwitting women (that’s a form of genocide by the way).

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump unilaterally instituted a travel ban from Muslim-majority countries, ever since he insisted Haitian and African immigrants were from “shithole countries”, ever since he commanded progressive congresswomen who disagreed with him to “go back where they came from”.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since 26 credible sexual assault allegations have come out against Trump without it seeming to matter one iota to his supporters, ever since video emerged of him admitting to grabbing women by the pussy, ever since he’s referred to the women who speak out against him variously as “Horseface”, “Nasty Woman”, “not my type”, “That dog”, and many many more.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to the seat that should’ve been rightly held by Merrick Garland, ever since Brett Kavanaugh cried and screamed and vowed revenge against Democrats like a petulant child, ever since the Senate rushed to confirm a right wing religious extremist with no real experience as a federal judge to the Supreme Court after RBG’s death in lieu of working to provide Americans with much needed covid stimulus, all because they hope to use the court to steal the election, reverse Roe v. Wade, strike down gay marriage, deem the ACA unconstitutional, and otherwise set America’s social progress back decades.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump stood on stage in Helsinki and declared he trusted the word of Putin over our own intelligence agencies, ever since he refused to comply with a legitimate nonpartisan Special Counsel investigation into his misdeeds and used his own Attorney General to make a mockery of the whole process and sow public mistrust and confusion over its results, ever since Senate Republicans proved themselves to be gutless and malevolent cowards by not doing the right thing and voting for Trump’s removal from office (and yes, Mitt Romney can absolutely get fucked as well).

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump mocked wounded veterans, POWs, and casualties as “losers and suckers”, ever since he just up and decided to abandon our loyal, hard-fighting and long-suffering Kurdish allies in Syria, making way for Turkey and Russia to exert their control on the region, ever since he withdrew the US from the Iran Nuclear Deal and later out of his own hubris and stupidity brought us to the brink of war with Iran.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump pulled the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement and gutted the EPA, rolling back environmental protections and quite possibly setting us on an irreversible course toward a point of no return, ever since he’s blatantly ignored California’s increasingly destructive and regular wildfires, blaming them on poor management by Newsom (even though most have occurred on federal land) just because California leans liberal (even though California is also full of Trump supporters, many of whom have been personally impacted by these fires).

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump refused to release his tax returns, ever since we learned that he has cheated and lied and tax-free inherited his way into an appearance of success, ever since we realized he is hundreds of millions of dollars in debt, all of which will come due in the next four years, ever since he’s wasted countless taxpayer dollars with his nonstop trips to his own golf resorts over the past few years, all while paying a laughable measly $750 in taxes himself.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for ever since Trump enacted the most disastrous non-response to a deadly global pandemic, perhaps the worst abdication of presidential responsibility in American history: blaming it on China, publicly downplaying it as no worse than the flu even though privately he was well aware of its dangers, cutting CDC funding and getting rid of the pandemic response team put in place by Obama, psychopathically allowing hard-hit blue states like New York to suffer in order benefit himself politically, systematically ignoring and discrediting scientific advisors like Dr. Fauci, refusing to set a good example by wearing a goddamn mask, never once offering a public display of sympathy for the 232,000+ lives we’ve lost to covid, preferring instead to say “it is what it is”.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for for just about every single waking moment of the past four years. It all comes down to this. I have been waiting for America to stand together and make it known that this behavior, these actions, this complete and utter lack of any moral compass, simply does not stand here. Trump and everyone who has aided and abetted his abuses of power needs to fucking go. We can never let them forget what they did, what they allowed to happen. We must never forgive nor forget.

This is fucking it.
